The list where you see all of the light terms- highlight, light value, medium values, shadows, and cast shadows. You may be intersted in looking at illusions by M. C. Escher. I suggest searching pencil value drawings.
Ex. highlights- pupil of eye, center of lip, light value- forehead, medium- most of hair, dark value- hair, eye lid, center of lip, cast shadow- under lip
He is gorgeous, such a lovely expression. Your shading is very nice, too, I like the graphic quality of the piece. I do agree with Pagnes, though, that you would be able to see a bit more of her head from this angle. And perhaps more of her ear on her left side. At the moment, her neck looks a bit too small to support her head, but it isn't bad. All in all, I think you have a really nice portrait here.
